Synopsis
When you open your heart...there's room for everyone.
In the 1970s, aimless teenager Greg Laurie searches for all the right things in all the wrong places until he meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie/street preacher. Together with local pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of a languishing church to an unexpected revival.

Speaking as a Christian, while the film was well made on a technical level and seemingly means well, it also intentionally leaves out pretty key parts to the story, has a lot of theological issues, and feels overly sanitized (ironic considering the constant jokes about the unwashed masses and hippies needing baths).
The acting is fine, Joel Courtney is convincing. The cinematography is fine, better than most Christian productions.
The writing leaves a lot to be desired... plot points don't really go anywhere, and Lonnie Frisbee's real life story isn't covered here at all. Frisbee's leaving of Calvary Chapel in the film is portrayed as the older pastor Chuck Smith being uncomfortable with his "moves of the Spirit" and alleged…

“There’s an entire generation searching, just in all the wrong places.”
Such a powerful experience for me. As a Christian, this hit me deeply and only strengthened my faith. To see a film of this subject matter get a worldwide release makes me so happy. If any of you could go out and support this in the theater, that would be amazing! The more support it gets, the longer it stays in the cinema and more people get to see it! You don’t even have to be a Christian to enjoy it. I’d actually highly recommend trying to take a non believer cause you never know what they may walk out of that theater feeling. I never cry in movies.…

”They want peace & love… isn’t that something you want?”
Well, I have to admit this one certainly preaches to its choir.
I guess the challenge is, if you’re not actually part of the choir then this film just flat out preaches… and preaches and preaches and preaches with all the subtly and nuance of an after-school special during drug awareness week.
Granted, it’s a well-meaning film and was inspired by a true story. However, these incredibly well-groomed hippies with their modern day hair and 80’s slang, felt as grounded in the late 60’s as a local pagent troupe playing dress-up with donations from the neighborhood thrift shop.
What’s really amazing is that this film could barely justify a one hour…

A huge step forward for faith-based films. After years of mainstream cinema full of queer erasure in historical fiction, Christian filmmakers are proving they can do it too!
At one point Kelsey Grammar as Pastor Chuck Smith says "Life without God is like tossed salad WITHOUT scrambled eggs!" And that resonated. One star!

I had no interest in seeing this because my mom forced me to watch this since I made her watch The Whale. I can’t even begin to explain how bad my expectations were topped. I loved this. It’s one of those movies where it personally spoke to me and makes me wanna be a better person. The theater (to my surprise) was packed, and people were clapping in the credits. I’ve been so sick and tired of all the movies that make Christians look like freaks, so watching this was so refreshing and such a blessing

Until seeing the film, the only thing I knew about the "Jesus Freak" movement or whatever was the DC Talk song of the same name.
And, well, the movie does a good job of telling the story and showing little parts of the main characters' lives. For some reason, though, you end up learning more about Greg's life than the other two, especially Lonnie, who has always had a mysterious air about him. The soundtrack is really decent, with some nice needle drops.
All of the actors do a fine job, but Courtney gets more of a chance to stand out than the others do because Greg is the one who grows the most. Roumie, in many ways, reenacts his…

Review from an unbiased neutral standpoint:
Jesus Revolution is a well-made, beautifully captured, powerful film about the Jesus movement that happened in the late 60s.
Unlike Christian films usually go, this was extremely well done in comparison. You can tell that they made this film to be a “film”, and not a piece of pro-Christian propaganda. It’s not preachy and anti-non-believer like you would normally expect from Christian films. Instead, this is well structured, well shot, and filled with great performances, camerawork, and cinematography throughout. Reading more into the revolution online I was shockingly surprised by how well they carried this story and how true to the facts they were. This might be one of the year's greatest biopics so…

You know in terms of Christian-based films go, this is one of the better ones in my eyes (tho that’s not saying much). Kinda gave me some Almost Famous vibes at times. Go figure.
Plus at certain points whenever Kelsey Grammer showed up on screen, I started to imagine what if it was Tom Hanks but it was his character fromElvis in that role and I started to laugh. Made me wish I saw that version of the film.

I spent most of my life a true believing Mormon, two year mission, temple rituals, 10% of my income to the church, I did it all. Then about a year ago my eyes and ears which previously had been shut tight against any and all truth through years (starting in early childhood) of indoctrination, lies, guilt and shaming were finally, thankfully, mercifully opened! The positive impact leaving the religion has had on my mental well being and self worth has been absolutely amazing! I wish it had happened sooner!
I share that with you because it was kind of a revolution in my life! And while I may no longer believe in the LDS faith I absolutely still believe in…
